Abstract
There is currently a rather unusual dichotomy in the treatment of originalism the theory that in constitutional adjudication judges should be guided by the intent of the Framers. Despite the recent rejection of the nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, the influence of the theory within the government remains at a high level; originalism is enthusiastically embraced not only by Attorney General Edwin Meese, but also by William Rehnquist, now Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
