Abstract

It is easy to read articles about Yucca Mountain and conclude that all that is going on is Nevada complaining because they do not want a particular NIMY. In actuality, the issue is much more complex, and Nevada raises some very troubling concerns about the congressional process that led to the site selection of what is likely to be the nation's nuclear repository. Given the significance of what is at stake, it is time to rethink how that decision was made and consider altering the process of selecting a site before the radioactive waste is buried away.
