Abstract
In academic circles, nothing incites hysteria like privileging hierarchy, especially in the form of ranking institutions. Ranking is big time hierarchy. Where else could you get Yale ranked first in "quality of life" and Harvard last. Nevertheless, knowing that some people will go "ballistic" and accuse you of "playing parlor games," while these same people are secretly coveting a high ranking, makes the effort worthwhile. There was another payoff; when the list was completed, I realized that the survey had flushed out something of critical importance to legal education and law.
